Mission/Mandate

Social Development Department is dedicated to fostering economic progress and establishing a robust social safety net. By developing and organizing activities and events, we aim to sustain the cultural well-being of the community, ensuring that all members have access to resources, support, and opportunities for growth.

Sub-departments

    Aims at creating opportunities for youth and families through education and skill development.
  3. Culture/Elders:
    Dedicated to preserving and promoting Cree traditions, wisdom, and the invaluable contributions of elders within the community.
  4. Wellness:
    Offers mental health and wellness programs to enhance the overall health and well-being of community members.
  5. Homeless Shelter:
    Provides immediate support and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of social services.

Services/programs offered

Transfer of Knowledge and Traditional Programs
Programs that facilitate sharing of traditional skills and knowledge among community members and instruct participants in Cree traditions and practices.

Elder’s Services and Activities
Support and engagement initiatives and events specifically designed for Elders.

Lunch Programs
Nutritional meal services during lunch for children and community members.

Mental Health Support
Assistance and resources available for individuals seeking help with mental health issues. Educational sessions focused on mental wellness, resilience, and coping strategies.

Children’s Programs
Engaging and educational activities aimed at the younger generation.

Men’s & Women’s Workshops/Activities
Gender-specific programs designed to address the unique needs and interests of men and women in the community.

Waswanipi Day
A community celebration emphasizing local culture, heritage, and community spirit.

Chiiwetaau
Projects and events that honor traditional practices and cultural expressions.

Christmas/New Years Festivities
Seasonal celebrations that foster community spirit and joy.

Activities for 36–54-year-olds
