Mission/Mandate

The Economic Development Department focuses on the community’s growth and expansion of local businesses. We engage in a proactive approach to uplift the community by equipping local entrepreneurs with the skills and resources needed for success. We aim to build a robust economic foundation for the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi through entrepreneurial support, training, and community involvement.

Main responsibilities
  • Facilitating the launch of new businesses and enhancing self-sufficiency among entrepreneurs.
  • Delivering social and financial support to community members.
  • Developing and implementing employment programs targeted at youth and the unemployed to establish a reliable source of income.

Creates job opportunities and workforce development initiatives.

Business Support and Development
Offers guidance and resources for starting and maintaining a business and introducing training programs designed to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills.

Training Initiatives
Providing comprehensive training such as business computerization, bookkeeping, dispute resolution and management skills and access to expert consultants for ongoing support and advice.
