Mission/Mandate

The Health and Safety department’s mission is to ensure the health, safety, well-being and protection for our community.

Main responsibilities
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing programs to the public related in health, hygiene, and sanitation practices
  • Facilitate safety and security practices, fire protection, and emergency services in the community.
Services/programs offered

Public Health
Focuses on protecting and improving community health through promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease prevention, and responding to infectious diseases.

Suicide Prevention
Engages in research, development, and implementation of protective strategies for individuals and families. Promotes awareness of warning signs and social change. The on-call team is available 24/7 for immediate support.

Fire Protection
Responds to fire-related emergencies, promotes fire safety, and conducts education and training programs regarding fire risks. Services are available around the clock.

Public Safety
Works to prevent and protect the community from various dangers, collaborating with police, fire departments, and emergency medical services.

Animal Control
Responsible for Patrolling the community for stray, injured and abandoned animals, investigation of animal neglect and cruelty concerns, pick-up of deceased animals, community mediation around animal issues; such animal populations, animal noise complaints or instances of animal hoarding. Investigations of bites to humans involving both domestic or wild animals, and vicious animals posing a public safety risk

Ambulance Services
Provides emergency medical care, stabilization, and transportation of patients to local clinics and hospitals.

Search and Rescue
Responds to emergencies involving lost individuals or groups, as well as medical emergencies in collaboration with other emergency services.

Community Watch
Aids in crime reduction and supports police efforts by checking on vulnerable individuals, assisting with transportation, and providing community support during emergencies like severe weather or health crises.
