The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi is seeking a resourceful and highly motivated individual to fill the position of Economic Development Officer within the Economic Development Department.
Position Summary
The Economic Development Officer plays a key role in promoting the economic and social development of the community. The EDO supports local entrepreneurs, identifies business opportunities, and works to create sustainable employment and economic growth within the community. The successful candidate will develop strong partnerships both within the community and with external organizations to foster long-term economic development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
The Economic Development Officer will:
• Facilitate and lead economic development planning, coordination, and evaluation
• Identify and promote business and employment opportunities
• Assist potential and existing entrepreneurs in accessing loans, grants, and funding programs
• Conduct research and feasibility analysis for economic initiatives
• Build partnerships and networks with community members, organizations, and external stakeholders
• Provide guidance on contracts, negotiations, and business development
• Supervise two local support staff
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors of the Waswanipi Development Corporation
• Report directly to the Director of Social Development
• Participate as a member of the Eeyou Economic Group
Qualifications and Requirements
• College diploma (2-year program) or university education, or
• Two to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to communicate effectively in Cree and English (French is considered an asset)
• Strong communication, research, negotiation, and mediation skills
• Knowledge of economic development practices and business support
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of accounting software is considered an asset
• Ability to work collaboratively with community members, organizations, and leadership
