Celebrating Culture, Land, and Connection: Piipoun Eetouwin

Over six weeks, our community came together to celebrate culture, land, and intergenerational knowledge through our annual winter festival Piipoun Eetowin.

More than 15 cultural workshops were offered, including sewing, traditional medicine, paluk making, snowshoe making, quilt making, traditional cooking, and more. Participants also took part in activities such as snowshoe walks, a youth harvesting excursion, and a land-based retreat.

Some favorite moments:

  • Coming together for an opening and closing feast
  • Moose generously donated by local hunters
  • Seeing not just community members, but also our nurses, teachers, and students take part
  • Youth and Elders spending time together, sharing stories, skills, and knowledge

This festival was made possible through strong collaborations with community partners, including the Niishiiyuu Department, Justice Department, Uskauu Ithuuwin, Cree Trappers Association (CTA), Youth Department, Cree Health Board, Brighter Futures, Miyupimaatisiun Committee, and the Women’s Association.

Thank you to everyone who participated, collaborated, and helped make this winter festival a success!
