From February 2–4, community members gathered for the annual Health Fair, a three-day event dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and awareness of the many services available within the community. Despite unexpected challenges, the event was a success thanks to strong teamwork and community support.
Event lead Lianne Wabanonik, Public Health Officer, reflected on this year’s event and the efforts that went into making it possible.
“This year’s Health Fair was different and challenging but nonetheless, it was still a successful event. First, I would like to thank everyone for coming to our annual Health Fair event! Yes, the event will happen every year. Naturally, we worked as a team again this year, with the collaboration of Miyupimaatisiiun Committee, the EEPF, the CHB, the Youth Council, the Youth department and the Robin’s Nest.
While it was a successful event, we still encountered a huge challenge. We had to find another location at last minute because the gym Youth Center was not a safe place to make the event happen. It was out of our control that these things do happen, and we can always have plan B to follow. We are grateful to the workers at the CHFC for their help in their quick organization on that Monday morning. On the last day, we had to move again to the original location, Youth Center. The issue was fixed and we could finish the event at the youth center.
There were many presentations/workshops that were geared towards health and safety for the public of every age. The main goal of the Health Fair event is to inform the community of the services, programs and activities that the entities or departments are offering. We hope that it was informative for the community and that they are equipped with knowledge from the variety of presentations/workshops during the event.
Congratulations to all the winners of the prizes! We hope you are enjoying them!
We will see everyone next year!!
Sincerely,
Lianne Wabanonik
Public Health Officer”
Throughout the three days, participants had the opportunity to attend a variety of presentations and workshops focused on health, safety, and wellness for people of all ages. The event highlighted the many programs, services, and activities offered by community departments and organizations.
The Health Fair was made possible through the collaboration of several partners, including the Miyupimaatisiiun Committee, the Eeyou Eenou Police Force, the Cree Health Board, the local Youth Council, the Youth Department, and Robin’s Nest. Their teamwork ensured that information and resources were shared with the community.
Despite the challenges faced along the way, the event demonstrated the community’s commitment to health, collaboration, and supporting one another. The Health Fair will return again next year, continuing its mission to keep the community informed and connected to important health resources.
