TO ALL ELIGIBLE VOTERS OF THE CREE FIRST NATION OF WASWANIPI RESPECTING THE 2026 ELECTIONS
Notice is hereby give to the Elector of the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi that an election has been called on Friday, July 31, 2026, for the following Council Member positions
- Chief;
- Deputy Chief;
- Seven (7) Councillors.
The Chief, Deputy Chief and seven (7) Councillors are elected by and from among the members of the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi for a term of four (4) years. The present notice is in accordance with the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi Election Law approved November 3rd, 2023.
For the office of Chief and Deputy Chief, a candidate must receive a clear majority of 50% + 1 of all valid votes cast to be declared elected, otherwise a Run-Off election will be called for the office where no candidate has received a clear majority of valid votes.
VOTING STATION: COMMUNITY HEALTHY & FITNESS CENTER
An advance poll shall be held for those electors who are unable to vote in person at the principal poll (election day) because of work or family responsibilities, or absence from the community.
TRAVELLING POLL: Friday, July 31, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A travelling poll will take place for the members of the community who are unable to come to the polling station on the day of voting. Please contact the Returning Officer or Deputy Returning Officer for additional information.
