Declaration Unites Council and Subsidiaries in a New Era of Transparency

WASWANIPI – February 27, 2025 – Cree First Nation of Waswanipi (CFNW) proudly announces the adoption of the Declaration of the Sole Shareholder of the Waswanipi Development Holding Corporation. This historic step marks a significant move towards unity and transparency between the Council of the CFNW and its wholly-owned subsidiaries.

The Declaration, approved by the Council on February 19, 2025, in the presence of the board of directors of the subsidiaries and signed by Chief Neeposh and President Happyjack, sets out guiding principles and objectives for the relationship between the CFNW and its subsidiaries. This initiative aims to ensure that principles of good governance, such as transparency and accountability, are fully incorporated into all governance activities and structures.

The Declaration emphasizes the commitment to maintaining environmentally sustainable practices, respecting cultural values, and supporting the CFNW’s goal of self-sufficiency and good governance.

The CFNW’s subsidiaries manage businesses that play a key role in the Waswanipi economic ecosystem, with a goal of providing economic returns to the CFNW in a manner that aligns with the cultural values and legal traditions of the Waswanipi Eenouch. This Declaration is binding on the WDHC, its boards of directors, and all officers and employees, including those of its subsidiaries.

The CFNW looks forward an improved partnership with the subsidiaries, based on principles of unity, and transparency, benefiting the CFNW and its membership as a whole, for today and into the future.
